IT contractor jobs on offer for graduates
IT contractor jobs and other positions within the sector appear to be opening up for graduate employees.
The latest High Fliers' Graduate Market report revealed that graduate vacancies within IT and telecommunications are due to increase by around a third over the course the year.
Placements have also become easier to access, with 655 work experience placements offered by businesses during the 2011-12 academic year. This could be fortunate given the fact that work experience is becoming increasingly important for graduates' CVs.
The research looked at 100 graduate employers and confirmed the increase in available work for graduates. However, it also noted that there has been a decline in applications over the course of the current academic year and the number of graduates who can count computer science as one of their skills has fallen by 20 per cent.
This could make it a great time for those graduates who are skilled to hunt down IT contractor jobs as the competition should be slim and the uncertain economy means that many businesses are open to considering contractors over permanent workers.
