Recruiters at Jenrick IT have reported that, although only one or two computer skills may be scarce at a national level in the country, there are IT skills shortages on a ‘micro’ level.
This comment came from Philip Fanthom, managing director of Jenrick IT. He explained that while his agency is seeing unprecedented demand for Flash Actionscript developers, for example, this is isolated to the London area and they do not expect the same level of demand for this skill to register nationwide.
“This is very much 'micro' demand and not 'macro'", he said.
He went on to say that the more widespread shortages in terms of IT skills are currently for C++, especially for contractors who can work on Sybase in a Unix environment.
IT recruitment company IntaPeople has reported that in the first half of this year they have seen the most demand for candidates with C# and for ASP.NET developers.
Java J2EE developers are also much sought after, the company has said. Director of IntaPeople, Phil Handley, commented: "Given the enduring popularity of C# and Java among UK businesses, the top of the list is not a massive surprise.”
