Demand for professionals in the high-technology sector has remained strong despite the unstable economy, new research has indicated.
Many companies in the industry are striving to improve their technologies, which could be welcome news for contractors and freelance workers with suitable skills.
A recent study conducted by recruitment consultancy ATA Selection found that high-technology businesses have proved resilient during the recession.
Consequently, workers with specialist skills in electronics, embedded software development, circuit design and research and development are now in high demand by many firms.
Andrew Hardaker, managing director of ATA Selection, noted that improved technology is intrinsic to economic recovery.
"As politicians keep reminding us, the future competitiveness of the UK's economy will depend on us thinking more smartly and developing an innovative, high-technology sector of world-beating standards" he commented.
He added that many companies in the sector were "thriving", which is creating good employment opportunities for technology professionals.
Mr Hardaker's comments were reflected in a recent study by the Confederation of British Industry, which suggested that demand for highly-skilled workers was set to increase in the coming months.
