Recent research has revealed that SQL skills are in demand among IT contractors and those in permanent positions.
The latest IT Job Board's Salary Monitor found that SQL server jobs are the most in demand in the IT industry, with 18,817 developer jobs offered during November in London alone.
However, in contractor jobs specifically, IT professionals in the finance sector were the most sought after. These positions provide contractor pay of up to £1,126 a day, which compares well to the top permanent salary of £200,000, which is tied to the position of senior applications designer.
Such high levels of contractor pay could prompt professionals to look into these positions as alternative if they are struggling to find something permanent at the moment, as the high pay is likely to make up for some of the uncertainty.
Alexandra Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board, commented on the figures: “Clearly SQL is a core skill as we move into 2012, and we would anticipate seeing increasing numbers of IT professionals either retraining in this area, or looking to improve on existing skills.”
