The forthcoming review of IR35 tax legislation should be carefully considered without being rushed, an industry body has advised.
Many contract and freelance workers are anticipating the abolishment of the contentious tax law since the government announced its intention to address it.
However, the Professional Contractors Group (PCG) urged the coalition to ensure potential changes to the system are beneficial to all concerned.
While the group is strongly in favour of scrapping IR35, it believes the government should take its time to develop a viable alternative.
John Brazier, managing director of the PCG, criticised the current system as being "cumbersome and ill thought out", claiming that it has been "blight on freelance workers" for more than ten years.
Mr Brazier added that his organisation had been an integral part of the research and development to ascertain what changes need to be made.
"We have done a lot of work on IR35 with independent experts and also taking in our members' experiences," he remarked.
"Our view to everyone involved in this review is; don't rush it - just get it right."
